Fact #159535

When:

Short story:

UK gender-bending pop vocalist Marilyn enters the UK singles chart for the second time. The track, Cry And Be Free, will peak at No31.

Full article:

Clive Langer (co-producer) : We did that because we were working with the Inspirational Choir, who had been on Wings Of A Dove (by Madness). It was quite good to work on a completely different thing. The Inspirational Choir are all very normal chaps and ladies and then we had Marilyn, who’s quite a laugh, but he’s very spoilt.

Alan Winstanley (co-producer) : We heard the first demo and it sounded great, but we didn’t realise he’d probably been singing in the bath for the past year.

Clive Langer (co-producer) : He wanted to be a real singer – Cry And Be Free and all that – so we kept the tracks down to make it as real as possible. He had Claudia singing with him luckily, so it didn’t sound too bad, really. If you heard just him singing Cry And Be Free it was very dodgy. If you isolate things, they can sound quite bad. You can get away with some out-of-tune people. A lot of hit records are out of tune.
