Staff Sergeant Barry Sadler, famed for his 1966 hit The Ballad Of The Green Berets, dies in Tennessee, USA, aged 49, from a bullet wound in his head, sustained three months earlier in Guatemala, where he was said to have been training Contra rebels. Sadler's life had been peppered with many violent incidents, including two earlier shootings in which he was implicated as the perpetrator.
