John Jackson (booking agent) : I've been Metallica's agent since 1985. The Monsters of Rock festival at Donnington park in 1985 was headlined by ZZ Top. The bill also contained a couple of hair bands, Bon Jovi and Ratt, and second on the bill was prog rockers Marillion.
When I approached Brummie promoter Maurice Jones about adding Metallica to the line-up he said “No fookin way”. But I was persistent and got them on. Two months later their album sales had quadrupled.
