Figures published today in the 2017 BPI Annual Yearbook, entitled All About the Music 2017, reveal that the recently deceased David Bowie was the most popular recording artist in the UK during 2016. 1.6m Bowie albums were purchased or streamed in 2016 – putting him ahead of Adele and Drake. Other facts in the yearbook include that the most-streamed track was Drake’s One Dance (142m); more than 100 back catalogue tracks were streamed over 10m times, and that 1 in 8 albums sold globally were of UK origin.
