Having been accused of being a Communist spy by The House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), American government official Alger Hiss is sentenced by a Grand Jury to five years' imprisonment on two counts of perjury, to run concurrently. (The original charge of spying was dropped because of the statute of limitations). The anti-Communist activities of the HUAC will inspire numerous songs, some for and some against. One of the best-known is I'm No Communist (1952) by country singer Carson Robison.
