Fact #148453
When:
Short story:
The Jimi Hendrix Experience plays at The Memorial Auditorium, Syracuse, New York State, USA.
Full article:
Larry Vaughan (Concerts East staffer) : It was right around the time when black students were protesting and rioting at Cornell University. Before the band went on, the house played a recording of Star-Spangled Banner over the public address system. When the lights went down, a white kid in the front row screamed at the top of his lungs, 'I love you!' Hendrix paused to look at him, and then the audience, and said, ''The feeling's mutual, man, but let's do something about those guns. It's getting frightening.'
Ben Fong-Torres (Rolling Stone) : Hendrix improvised a verse or two of new lyrics for a new song. The words came out something like '… and I was in this room full of light and a thousand mirrors.' Those hours of interrogation by The Mounties had apparently taken their toll.
Ron Terry (booking agent) : We decided that we were not going to think about it (the drug bust) any more, so we just partied. He and I got adjoining suites at the end of a hall and partied all night with three stewardesses we had met on the flight to Syracuse.
