Anybody who got a buzz from 2014’s acclaimed Lost In The Dream by War On Drugs will find plenty to savour on this debut by Montreal post-punkers Heat. They don’t sound like W.O.D., but they do share a relentless drive and a healthy pre-occupation with danceable beats that sets them way above heavy rock’s usual thud and blunder. Grammy-winning producer Alex Newport keeps them sounding rough-hewn without sacrificing the aural details of their powerfully interlaced guitars and synths. The resulting sound is simultaneously joyous and profoundly unsettling, and when vocalist Susil Sharma figures how to inject more melody into his singing, they’ll be unstoppable.
