Barry Dickins (booking agent) : In 1966 I was working for Harold Davidson, who later sold his agency business to MAM. I was just the kid in the office and I was sent out on the road with Otis Redding. Actually, I booked the shows, which wasn't all that hard. Otis was one of my heroes. I remember we played at The Carousel Club in Farnborough in Kent, and Otis asked me 'Where's the John?' I said 'I don't know' because I'd never heard that word before. So Otis says, "The rest room." I said, 'Are you tired?' He says, "No, man, the bathroom. Where's the bathroom?" I told him there was no bath, only a toilet. It took ages to get what he was talking about.
He was great. He put on a fabulous show. He autographed a photograph for me, but I can't find it now. He signed it, 'To Barry, respect, Otis Redding.'
