Poland isn’t known for its rich singer-songwriter heritage but Lipnicka may change all that. A star at 18 in the band Varius Manx, and with three acclaimed solo albums before this, she’s the voice of her generation at home. Recorded in the UK, partly at Peter Gabriel’s Real World Studios, it’s a classy affair with a largely acoustic vibe, and Lipnicka in fine voice. The two loveliest tracks are the beautifully structured Halfway Through and Glass Of Water with its delicate harmonica embellishments, although Hungry Feast Of Love has a decidedly Angelo Badalementi vibe, with tons of reverb and a prominent doomy bassline perfect for the Twin Peaks soundtrack.
