Fact #141409
When:
Short story:
The Ramones play at Clouds, Edinburgh, Scotland, UK, supported by The Rezillos.
Full article:
John Giddings : I became The Ramones’ agent because they were managed by Linda Stein, who also managed a singer-songwriter called Steve Forbert, and she was mates with Barry Dickins, my boss at the MAM agency, who didn’t know what to do with The Ramones, so he dumped them on the new boy - me.
Watching The Ramones was like being hit over the head with a sledgehammer.
I travelled the world with the Ramones throughout their whole career. They were the nicest guys on God’s earth, and they had a great work ethic. They didn’t talk about gigs. They called them jobs. And they didn’t call the venues halls, they called them rooms. "Where’s the job tonight, and what room is it in?"
Johnny Ramone’s politics were to the right of Attila The Hun. He never understood why all the British punk fans were spitting at him. I remember doing an interview with them up at Forth Radio in Edinburgh and the deejay asked him what he thought of Johnny Rotten. Johnny looked at him and said, "Let me tell ya. He was still miming in the mirror when we were doing gigs."
