Full article:

Paul McCartney : Michael is the top man in the festival field and he's extremely enthusiastic about what he does.  He's a real English character who it's a pleasure doing business with.  I was really looked after very well when my band did Glastonbury.  It was an honour to play for him.

Barry Marshall (tour director for Paul McCartney) : It took about four years of Michael Eavis politely but doggedly pushing to get Paul to play at Glastonbury. Because of who Paul is, we have certain conditions and requirements that have to be fulfilled before we will agree to play anywhere. We’re quite pernickety about what we want. Michael Eavis was very patient and receptive about our requirements, but he will only be driven so far. In the end, we made some compromises and we went there and had a great time.

Michael was clearly loving the music and one of the great things about him is that, although he knows how much power and influence he has, he has no airs or affectations. His feet are firmly on the ground.

Paul’s whole European tour that year was structured to get to Glastonbury. That’s how important an event it is.
