The three-day-long Glastonbury Festival gets underway at Pilton, Somerset, England, UK. This 25th Anniversary event features The Cure, Oasis, Orbital, P J Harvey, Simple Minds and Portishead. Attendance: 80,000. Tickets: £65. Programme : £5.
The festival was completely sold out within four weeks of the ticket release date. A Dance Tent was introduced, the first acts being Massive Attack, System 7 and Eat Static. Stone Roses pulled out a week before show-time and were replaced by Pulp.
