Ian McCulloch (Echo and the Bunnymen) : It came at a time when we’d said we were going to have a year off. But after about three months we just said, ‘Sod it.’ We played Sweden and did the covers thing, becoming our own support band. We just needed to loosen up, become less precious about what we were doing – and I think it probably worked. All I remember about Glastonbury now is the rain pissing down and that the dressing rooms were dead exotic.
On-stage we were loving it. It was a big deal for us and I thought we were great. Also, I didn’t get any mud over me.
