Fact #135483

When:

Short story:

(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones enters the UK singles chart, where it will peak at No1.

Full article:

Roger Daltrey (vocalist, The Who) : It really was The Rolling Stones' groundbreaking single. It all came together for them with Satisfaction. It was so focussed for them, that record, and it's so commercial. It will never be beaten.

It wouldn't have worked for many other bands in the same way it worked for them. I mean, it would still have been a hit for other bands, 'cos it's such a fucking great song, it's so perfect, but it wouldn't have worked the same way for The Who or the Pink Floyd. That record cemented the Stones. Once that single came out, you knew they were going to be around for forty or fifty years.
