Fact #134030

When:

Short story:

The Undertakers and The Pete Best Combo, two groups from Liverpool, England, UK, fly to New York City at the behest of entrepreneur Bob Harvey, who has promised them both lucrative work in the USA.

Full article:

Jackie Lomax (The Undertakers) : Bob Harvey's idea was, he'd get Pete Best over there and promote him as the ex-Beatle suing fr $8m, and make a fortune. He didn't care about Pete's grop, he didn't care about us, he was just in it for the fast buck.

Harvey promised us work permits and all that stuff but he didn't really concentrate on us. The Pete Best Combo was tv shows and exposure, and we were getting the boot. The only gigs we played were up in Canada, because we'd go out on a vsitor's visa and then come back and get our passports stamped again which gave us another month.

Harvey couldn't get us jobs in New York, he wasn't a recognised guy. He put us up in a sleazy hotel for a couple of weeks, and thn we ended up sleeping in the recording studio (Talentmastes on W42nd St), fighting for the desk to get away from the cockroaches.
