Fact #133510

When:

Short story:

The Beatles are interviewed for UK tv show Top Of The Pops by deejay Jimmy Savile, during rehearsals for Another Beatles Christmas Show at The Odeon, Hammersmith, London, England, UK.

Full article:

Elkie Brooks : The show was a series of pantomime sketches and nobody but the producer was taking anything very seriously. The Beatles, egged on by The Yardbirds, were taking the mickey out of the sketches.

Two days before the opening, there had not been one full uninterrupted run-through. The producer was going spare - and I finally drove him round the bend. My big scene was with Paul McCartney. I had to impersonate a groupie fan and rush up to Paul screaming and fall into his arms.

I certainly fell and I remember screaming, but I was nowhere near Paul McCartney at the time. Some clever dick had left a wire in my path. Instead of flying into Paul's arms, I went flying half way across the stage.

That was the last straw for the producer. "I've never worked with such a bunch of amateurs in my life," he screamed. "Either you do this show properly or you can all **** off!"
