When:
Short story:
Hair-metal band Tuff play their first show with new vocalist Stevie Rachelle, as support to Warrant at The Roxy, Los Angeles, California, USA.
Full article:
Stevie Rachelle : Tuff started circulating a flyer in 1987, with pictures of them all except for one empty square in the middle, where it said 'Wanted - Lead Singer/frontman'. They were looking for a David Lee Roth, Bret Michaels, Vince Neil type. Somehow, all the way over in Wisconsin, where I lived at that time, I saw the flyer which said, 'Is this you? Call us!'
Poison had just broke big at this point. People who saw me with my band X-iter in Wisconsin had been saying I was like a David Lee Roth clone, but when Poison came out, people started comparing me to Bret Michaels.
So when I heard there was this slot in Tuff, I tried to call them in Los Angeles, but they wanted me to send a promo package, publicity photos, but I didn’t feel I had anything of that sort which would represent me in a quality way.
So three days later, June 26, 1987, I quit my job, moved out of my apartment, parked my car over in my mother’s driveway, all my possessions in her basement, and bought a one-way ticket for $109 from Chicago Midway Airport to LA-X. It was six days after I first saw the poster that I landed in LA.
Then I called them again, and they agreed to meet me. We met in an apartment, played each other’s demos, they thought I was right for an audition. I definitely had the looks, which was important, but they wanted to see if I could perform. Within a couple of days I auditioned, they gave me the job and six weeks later we opened up for Warrant at The Roxy, and that was our first show together.
