When:
Short story:
The Beatles, along with Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones and Marianne Faithfull, are in Bangor in Wales, UK, Europe, studying with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Brian Epstein attends a meeting at his Warbleton, Sussex, UK, house.
While Full article:
Bryan Barret (Epstein's chauffeur) : We'd had a falling out. He had told me that he had an important meeting at his Sussex home, and he wanted me there. He never told me why it was so important, but I could sense that he was even more keyed-up than usual. But I was due to go on holiday with my children and I just couldn't let them down.
He started to argue that John Lennon wouldn't have put his family first under these circumstances, but I cut him short. I told him, 'John's no father. Little Julian, poor kid - look at the crazy environment he was brought up in, thanks to John's strange ways.'
He warned me that, if I insisted on going on holiday, there might not be a job waiting for me when I came back. I asked him if he was sacking me, if I needed to look for another job. He said we should leave the matter for now. Mr Epstein drove himself down for this meeting and then drove himself back to Chapel Street.
What went on at that meeting, and who was there, I don't know. Judging by his anxious manner beforehand, a number of people were expected. It was heavy stuff and it was obviously bothering him. At the time, his relationship with The Beatles was getting strained and Cilla was leaving him to be managed by her husband, Bobby Willis, so things were going pear-shaped for Brian.
