Fact #119822
When:
Short story:
The Kinks spend the second of three days recording their second album, Kinda Kinks, in Pye Studios, London, UK.
Full article:
Ray Davies (leader, The Kinks] : We got back from Australia in February 1965 and they rushed us into the studio to record the second album. I thought, 'Do you people think it's all gonna go away? You want to rush us just to make as much money as you can in case we don't come up with anything more.' That made me feel really uneasy and insecure. But once I got those first few hits, I knew it wasn't going away.
We had to do that album in a week. We came off the plane and I had an elephant leg from a bite I'd got in Singapore. We had to go straight to the studio to do the album. A bit more care should have been taken with it. I think Shel Talmy (producer) went too far in trying to keep in the rough edges. Some of the double-tracking on that is appalling.
It had better songs on it than the first album but it wasn't executed in the right way. It was just far too rushed.
