Full article:
Adam Ant (punk rock musician) : The Pistols supported Bazooka Joe, the group I was in, in November 1975 at the St Martin’s College Of Art and I took one look at them and it just encompassed everything that I felt I wanted to be a part of. It was very sexy, it was very brash, there was something very special about what they were doing.
Their music was very simple and I remember someone shouting at them, ‘You can’t play!’ and Matlock turned round and said, ‘So what?’ and kept playing.
Johnny Rotten : I think we played for about twelve minutes. I can remember being unplugged and then the dead silence. A lot of the early gigs for the Pistols were dead silence. There’d be no applause, just a glaring animosity and a resentment.
Adam Ant : I knew about the Sex shop, but watching this band I just knew this was the way to go. They had nothing to do with musicianship or indulgence, and looked great. I liked the way they ignored everybody. I left Bazooka Joe that night.
