Full article:

Robert Wyatt : I can remember it, but I can’t talk about it. I would rather leave that, really. I was a reckless youth and I did things like that. That particular time was a bit over the top – literally. In one way I was very rock’n’roll – I did have a reckless life and do silly things, but that’s all I will say about that.

I spent most of that year in Stoke Mandeville hospital. I was able to sit and think. Hospital, for all its problems, I mean, they’re really nice, the nurses and doctors and they change the bed and look after you. All these things, you suddenly don’t have to think about them yourself. It’s a kind of strange luxury.

Stoke Mandeville is where Jimmy Savile used to work. We used to hide under the sheets and pretend we were asleep whenever he came round. He was very popular in the women’s wards but we were slightly embarrassed that he used to come round. He used to pull the sheets down and say, ‘I can see you!’ What can you say?
