Guitarist and songwriter Steven Springer, best-known as a member of the Trinidad Tripoli Steel Band, dies aged 60 of cancer, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. Springer also played with Sir Lancelot Pinard and the band Sanctuary, and he founded the musical project Tropicooljazz.

OBITUARY : Steven Anthony Springer, age 60, passed away peacefully at 5:40 pm, September 10, 2012, with family members by his side at his home in Ann Arbor, Michigan from complications due to a long-term battle with cancer. Steven was born September 23, 1951, in Trinidad, West Indies to Thomas and Leanora Springer. Steven married Karen Bronski and from that union he had three beautiful children, Venissa Springer-Thumm (Adam), John Paul Springer, and Sarah Springer. Steven later married Denise Dooley. Steven and Denise were blessed with three grandchildren, Lilly Thumm, Hudson Thumm and Christian Springer. Steven is survived by his loving and devoted wife Denise, his three children and three grandchildren, his mother Leanora, his half brother Thomas Springer Jr. and his half sister Betty Griffin. Steven was preceded in death by his first wife Karen, and his father Tommy, who will be waiting for him. Steven had a passion for music that touched everyone who heard him play his guitar. His music and his love of travel took him all over the world. Steven played in several national and international touring bands, and recorded over 25 albums alongside some of the greatest names in Caribbean and Jazz music. He dedicated the last few years of his life to playing at charity events and hospitals. Steven was proud to play the legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool, England, birthplace of the Beatles, on his 60th birthday last year. Steven will be missed by his family and friends, as well as the music world. Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of his Life will be announced at a later date. The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Steven Springer Cancer Fund online at www.springercancerfund.info
