John Renbourn (folk guitarist) : The first time I heard Bert, he was playing at Bunjie's and a lot of people had said, 'You gotta come up to this gig, he's great', so the word was out. Anyway, I was absolutely gassed by his playing and I went to another gig immediately afterwards to hear him. He was backing Little Walter, the Chicago harp player, and Bert was the band!
