Lulu : I remember when Alex Harvey came back from Germany and that's where I heard Shout. I went out to see him and he was so thin, thin, thin. Black hair, black eyes with shadows under them, and leather trousers so tight it looked like he must sleep in them, and he sang Shout and I went 'Oh my God.' I went right out of my mind. I did not need drugs. That was my drug. The goosebumps were all over my body. His voice just got me.
So we started using Shout in our show and when I went to Decca for my audition, that was the song I sang. Afterwards, they said 'Very nice, dear, now that'll be your first single.' I was heartbroken. I was hoping I'd get a Lennon-McCartney song written for me.
Of course, it was a huge hit, so they'd proved they were right and, after that, I tended to do what I was told.
