Fact #100573

When:

Short story:

The Jimi Hendrix Experience begin a tour of the USA supported by Fat Mattress, at Dorton Arena, Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.

Full article:

Mitch Mitchell (drummer, JHE) : Noel was getting more involved with his own band, Fat Mattress. He had insisted they open for us in Europe and they were doing so on this tour as well. I always thought that was strange, him doing that, and Jimi resented it. Fat Mattress were just OK, but essentially a pretty lightweight band. Hendrix used to call them Thin Pillow.

Michael Hecht (Hendrix staffer) : We sent Arthur Johnson (accountant) on the road with them. He would take each concert's receipts, buy a bank check the next day and then send the bank check back. Stickells (road manager) had said that he didn't want the sole responsibility of carrying so much cash while handling all of his other duties, and I don't blame him. The people on the road were crazy and had crazy demands.
