Rudy Dopyera files a patent for a guitar-like musical instrument invented by his brother John Dopyera in Los Angeles, California, USA. The instrument will become known as a Dobro, a staple instrument in the country music genre. Rudy was one of five Dopyera brothers, and the name of the instrument is an abbreviated form of "DOpyera BROthers."
