San Francisco Mayor George Moscone and San Francisco Supervisor Harvey Milk, are shot and killed in City Hall, San Francisco, California, USA, by former Supervisor Dan White. The life and death of Harvey Milk, the first openly gay man elected to public office in the United States, will inspire at least two songs. Singer/songwriter Holly Near will compose Singing for Our Lives, also known as Song For Harvey Milk, and Daniel Versus The World will write Closet [Song For Harvey Milk].
