A US patent, No. 1,707,545, is applied for in respect of the first moving coil speaker, the Western Electric No. 555 Receiver (Horn driver). Designed by E.C. Wente at Bell Labs, the speaker is designed "to receive and transmit sound with high and uniform efficiency over a wide frequency range."
